PM announces compensation package for earthquake victims

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced a comprehensive assistance package for the quake affected people.

Announcing the package at a news conference in Peshawar on Wednesday, he said the package has been prepared in consultation with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

He said both the Federal and Provincial governments will share cost of the package.

Under the package, six hundred thousand rupees will be given to the family of each deceased and one hundred thousand rupees to each injured person. Similarly, two hundred thousand rupees will be given to the one who lost his limb or any other body part in the calamity.

The Prime Minister said that two hundred thousand rupees would also be given for the construction of completely damaged houses while one hundred thousand rupees each for the partially damaged houses.

Nawaz Sharif said the process of payment of compensation will start from Monday.

Earlier, at a briefing in Governor House, the Prime Minister was told that two hundred and twenty two people were killed and one thousand six hundreds eighty-eight injured due to the earthquake in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He was told that eight thousand four hundred and fifty three houses were damaged by the quake.

PM Nawaz Sharif was informed that relief goods including tents, blankets and food items have also been sent to all affected areas.
