Pakistan and the United States has once again stressed the need of dialogue between Pakistan and India to resolve Kashmir issue so that regional stability could be strengthened.

Spokesman US State Department Mark Toner said that continued dialogue was the best way to remove tensions between Pakistan and India.

‘Pakistan has been deeply affected by terrorism and it has taken effective steps to fight the menace of terrorism,’ he said while addressing a media briefing in Washington.

He described the meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Barack Obama very successful and said the visit overall highlighted America’s strong and growing relationship with Pakistan.

He said the visit provided an opportunity to strengthen our cooperation on a range of issues, including economic growth, trade, investment, clean energy, nuclear security and regional stability.

On the other hand, President Mamnoon Hussain says the United Nations is an ideal forum to galvanize global action on key priorities ranging from human rights to development and climate change.

In his message on the occasion of United Nations Day marked on Oct 24, the President said this was an occasion to reaffirm our abiding commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

He said the United Nations had a key role in promoting pacific settlement of disputes and upholding the right to self-determination of peoples under alien domination and foreign occupation.

The President said Pakistan believed that a just and lasting resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations was essential for durable peace and development in the region.

As a leading troop contributor to UN Peacekeeping over the decades, the President said Pakistan had made substantive contribution to the United Nations’ efforts in carrying out its primary responsibility for maintenance of international peace and security.
