Pakistan, Australia agree to deepen ties in diverse fields

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Australia have agreed to further deepen their ties and enhance mutual cooperation in diverse fields as Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop called on by advisor on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz here.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Sartaj Aziz were addressing  a joint news conference after they held talks in Islamabad today.

The Australian Minister said her country gives importance to establishing  ties with Pakistan in mumber of fields. She said both the sides held constructive and positive talks with particular focus on increasing cooperation in the fields of agriculture, livestock, water resource management, trade, investment and economy.

Julie said they also discussed security situation in the region and possible cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The Australian Foreign Minister said her country believes that Pakistan is an important country thus there is a need to further deepen relation with it in diverse fields. She said Australia is also a strong development partner of Pakistan and is extending 24 million dollars for its development through various means. She said her country can also help Pakistan in overcoming energy crises.

Sartaj Aziz said both the sides agreed to enhance people to people contact besides giving boost to political contacts, high level visits and exchange of parliamentary delegations.

He said both the countries have agreed to work jointly for eliminating terrorism.
