KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman said the JI has welcomed the NEPRA’s report on K-Electric on over-billing and bogus billing and ruling of the Sindh High Court and registration of an FIR against 4 officers of the K-Electric on charges of bogus billing. The time has come now for stern action against the K-Electric and the money the company has so far looted from the consumers should now be recovered and refunded to the consumers.

Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman said the Karachi Electric has totally failed to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to its consumers and has violated the agreement for failing to add the required power generation units to the system. The looted money should not only be recovered and refunded to the consumers but the Karachi Electric management should also be taken to task for making lives of the people of Karachi miserable during scorching heat and extreme heat wave.

He said the Karachi Electric has in connivance to the terrorists and extortionists ruined consumers’ lives on the pretext of recovery of inflated, bogus billing and recovery of dues. The Karachi Electric also failed to improve its efficiency despite peoples’ protest.

The JI Karachi Ameer said that those nominated in the FIR on charges of bogus billing should be dealt with iron hand. The issue of bogus billing is not confined to just North Karachi but it is an issue of consumers across the city.

He said the Karachi Electric has replaced copper wire with aluminum wire, and the over-billing, bogus billing and speedy billing through fast tariff meter is common across the city and besides the residential consumers, the commercial and industrial consumers are also victim of the Karachi Electric’s atrocities. The commercial and industrial units were also agonised due to which trade and economic activities had greatly halted but the Karachi Electric was allowed to do what it wanted to do to its consumers.

He said the Karachi Electric has now been fully exposed and there is no need to keep this company that has failed to serve its paying consumers.
