Russian forces have launched its first air strikes in war-torn Syria on Wednesday post parliamentary approval to President Vladimir Putin to use force abroad, the United States claimed.

The air strikes were carried out near Homs city and it is said to be first engagements of Moscow since the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, a US official claimed.

It should be mentioned here that the air attacks reportedly launched President Vladimir Putin had just hours earlier won permission from the upper house, Russian Federation Council, to deploy troops outside the country.

However, Russian defence ministry declined to immediately confirm the strikes.

Moreover, the series of aerial strikes were apparently exhibiting Russia’s deepening engagement in Syria post meeting of Putin and US President Barack Obama who aimed to play role for defeating the Islamic State (IS) group.
