Karachi unmoved by MQM strike call

KARACHI: Transport running smoothly, markets are open and life is moving on usual in Karachi on Saturday, despite Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) call to observe strike in the city.

The strongest political party in the city is observing a day of mourning against workers’ ‘extrajudicial’ killings, but this time Karachiites may have not supported the strike.

MQM’s rabita committee had called to observe a day of mourning today against alleged ‘extrajudicial’ killings of workers amid ongoing operation in Karachi against criminals and militants.

However, life in Karachi for once seems normal following MQM’s call as people devoured breakfasts in roadside eateries and kick-started another usual day.

Almost all markets, business points and petrol pumps are open in Karachi today.

CNG stations are also open for refueling and business across the city after 24 hours outage.

However, MQM maintained, like always that observing a peaceful strike is every disappointed citizen’s democratic right.
