SC orders implementation of Urdu as official language

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday the implementation of Urdu as the official language in government offices.

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Jawaad S Khawaja announced its judgment over petitions seeking to make Urdu as an official language.

The approved framework attached with the circular states that the public and semi-private departments under the federal government are directed to translate and publish their policies in Urdu.

The framework has also directed government departments to publish their rules and regulations, and provide their forms in Urdu as well as in English language.

Furthermore, the framework stated that all international and local speeches made by the president and prime minister will also be in Urdu language.

It is pertinent to mention here that, It was written in the constitution of 1973 that Urdu will be the official and national language of the country. The language will be adopted as official language within 15 years till but it was not adopted yet.
