BERLIN: Samsung following Motorola’s footsteps, has unveiled its newest smartwatch, one that the company hopes will help it regain lost ground in the hot wearables market.

The Gear S2, Samsung’s seventh smartwatch but its first featuring a circular screen, will be available in the US starting in early October.

The watch is quite similar to the Motorola’s 360 which also debut couple of days ago.

It comes in two models that feature rotating bezels that let users quickly navigate through apps and features on the device.

The main model, called simply the Gear S2, has a modern, minimalist bent, while the more traditional Gear S2 Classic boasts a black body and leather band. The (non-Classic) Gear S2 will also be available in a version that includes built-in 3G cellular capability.

Samsung said both devices will last two to three days on a single charge with “typical usage,” and users can customize the watch faces and easily switch bands.

One, the Classic, works with traditional watch bands, not just the proprietary straps common on many smartwatches.
