Two US Marines killed, 11 injured in training helicopter crash

PALM SPRINGS: Tow US Marine Corps killed while 11 injured when their helicopter crashed during a training exercise in the Southern California desert.

The two killed pilots were identified as Capt. Elizabeth Kealey and 1st Lt. Adam Satterfield. They were killed when the UH-1Y Huey helicopter crashed.

Commanding officer Lt. Col. James M. Isaacs, said that “Capt. Kealey and 1st Lt. Satterfield were both outstanding Marine Corps officers and talented helicopter pilots.”

The pilots were assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 169 and based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton.

According to the official Twitter account of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, 3rd Marine Air Wing, the Marines were with the Third Marine Aircraft Wing.

The crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. PT on Friday.
