Nepal disastrous earthquake: death toll passes 5,500

KATHMANDU: Death toll is hiking day by day as 5,500 confirmed deaths were reported so far alongside more than 10,000 people who sustained injuries following the disastrous 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal, government assessments said.

Rescue and relief operations teams belonging to various countries including Pakistan have gathered in the quake-hit Nepal and continuing relief activities in the affected areas.

World Health Organisation (WHO) had issued warning that almost 10 million children in Nepal earthquake which created huge shortage of food. WHO raised attention of international community to make rapid decision to make necessary arrangements for saving lives of millions of children.

United Nations (UN) appealed international community for $4.1 million for restoration and relief projects in Nepal. The natural disaster caused severe shortage of food and water to more than 800 million locals in Nepal.
