Pakistan, Kazakhstan to cooperate in energy, civil nuclear sectors

ISLAMABAD/ASTANA: The leadership of Pakistan and Kazakhstan have expressed mutual resolve to strengthen bilateral trade and build long-term economic cooperation.

According to a joint communiqué issued after a two-day official visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Kazakhstan, the two countries would cooperate in the field of energy, civil nuclear cooperation and renewable energy.

They underlined the importance of setting-up of Joint Business Council and enhancing cooperation in the field of defence.
President Nursultan Nazarbayev acknowledged the potential of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor for the economic development of the region.

The two sides noted that one of the potential links between Kazakhstan and Pakistan could be established through connection of railways.

The President of Kazakhstan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan expressed intention to develop regular exchange between organizations, educational institutions, mass media, and education.

The leaders of two countries discussed Kazakhstan-Pakistan relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The joint communiqué said the two sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen cooperation on prevention and peaceful resolution of international conflicts, and to counter challenges posed by terrorism.

They underscored the importance of coordination among all stakeholders in preparing the Fifth Ministerial Conference in Islamabad in December 2015, within the framework of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process.
