Chairing a meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister reviewed the progress on National Health Insurance Programme in Islamabad.
Minister of State for Health, Saira Afzal Tarar apprised him that 9.1 billion rupees have been approved for the scheme and its first phase would be launched in December this year.
Under the scheme poor families will be provided with free of cost health insurance to access secondary as well as priority disease treatment without any financial obligations.
The Prime Minister was briefed that in the first phase of the programme the poorest of the poor in twenty districts from all the provinces will get the insurance cover, and eventually it will be implemented throughout the country.
The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to develop a state of the art insurance system through which the poor can get medical treatment without any difficulty.
