World's largest Muslim country to ban use of social media by young children

Some time ago in Australia, a ban on the use of social media by children under the age of 16 was enacted, which will be implemented sometime this year.

Now Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim country by population, has decided to do the same.

Indonesia is planning to set an age limit for social media use to protect children from harmful online content, Bloomberg reports.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto told ministers that laws should be drawn up in one to two months to ensure the protection of children online.

Indonesia’s Minister of Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said in a statement that the laws are likely to include an age limit for using social media.

Monitoring of online activities by the authorities is also likely to be tightened.

He did not specify what the minimum age would be for using social media.

Some time ago, Meutya Hafid spoke about this and said that she had discussed this project with the Indonesian President.

He said on this occasion that we discussed about providing protection to children from online activities in the present era and the President directed to take the project forward.
