WhatsApp, the instant messaging application, has alleged that Israeli spyware company Paragon Solutions has targeted around 90 journalists and members of civil society who use the app.

A WhatsApp official said that Meta’s subsidiary had sent a cease and desist letter to Paragon Solutions after the hack.

In a statement released, WhatsApp said that the company will continue to strive to protect people’s ability to communicate privately.

Paragon, on the other hand, has refused to comment on the matter.

A WhatsApp official told Reuters that the platform had flagged around 90 users in an attempted hack.

However, he declined to say which specific people were targeted or which region they belonged to. But the company pointed out that those targeted were members of the media and civil society.
