Instagram has introduced a new video-editing app called “Edits”, a day after rival ByteDance apps CapCut and TikTok shut down briefly in the US. The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced in a video posted on the platform that the video-editing app is scheduled to be unveiled on March 13.
Mosseri further said the new editing app will include a higher-quality camera, video editing tools, a feature to share drafts with others, and Instagram analytics on how those videos perform.
He added that the new app can be used to make videos for platforms besides Instagram as well and said there’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators.
On Sunday, Meta also put sponsored ads for Instagram on the iOS App Store for a few hours. The technology giant, in another sign, is capitalizing on the lack of clarity regarding TikTok’s future.
Bloomberg reported that the users who typed “TikTok” saw an ad for Instagram. It added the ads had stopped appearing as of late Sunday evening.
When asked, Meta did not respond to a request for commentabout the sponsored App Store ads. Besides Instagram, Meta also owns Threads, Facebook and WhatsApp.
