Petrol price hiked by Rs3.47 per litre

The government has hiked the price of petrol by Rs3.47 per litre for the next fortnight.

According to the Finance Division notification issued here, the per litre price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been raised from Rs258.34 to Rs260.95 after an hike of Rs2.61.

It added that: “The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has worked out the consumer prices of petroleum products in view of the fluctuations in the international market in the last fortnight.”

Existing price New price Increase/Decrease
High Speed Diesel (HSD) 258.34 260.95 +2.61
MS (Petrol) 252.66 256.13 +3.47

The notification said the new prices of fuel will be effective from today (January 16).

The increase in POL prices is attributed to rising international oil prices, driven by the US sanctions on oil exports to China and India.

Due to these sanctions, the crude oil price has increased past $81 per barrel—the highest since August 2024—amid concern over the impact of US shipping restrictions on Russian oil supplies.

The government, earlier this month, had raised the price of petrol by Re0.56 per litre on New Year’s Eve, for the first fortnight of 2025.
