The number of patients in 23 US states has reached 100 due to the infection salmonella spread by cucumbers imported from Mexico.
Cucumbers sold by Sunfeed Produce, Ballwin Farms and Russ Davis Wholesale have been recalled for the items (including deli trays and salads) in which they are used, according to the International News Agency.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, 25 people required hospitalization as per available information. However, no deaths occurred from the outbreak. Patients range from 1 to 98 years of age.
After talking to 67 patients, it was found that 54 had eaten cucumber before developing the disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that the number of people affected by the outbreak included unconfirmed cases. Cases of salmonellam may be quite high due to lack of specific test.
As a practical measure, the cucumbers distributed between October 12 and November 26 have been recalled. These cucumbers were supplied to several states of the United States and several provinces of Canada.
