SHC grants 20-day protective bail to ex-president Arif Alvi

The Sindh High Court approved the protective bail for former president Arif Alvi for 20 days.

The SHC granted protective bail to former president Arif Alvi for 20 days and ordered him to deposit a surety bond of R 50,000. The court has granted bail to Arif Alvi in three cases.

The court observed that the matter is being sent to the Constitution Bench for further hearing of the case. The petitioner’s counsel took the stand that despite peaceful protests, cases were registered in various cities

Cases were registered against Arif Alvi in Mianwali, Taxila and Rawalpindi. The purpose of the cases is to exert political pressure. A 20-day protective bail should be given to approach the courts and the Sindh Police should be restrained from arresting the petitioner and Arif Alvi’s name should be restrained from being included in unknown FIRs.

On the other hand, regarding de-sealing of Dr. Arif Alvi’s clinic, the former president’s wife filed a contempt of court petition against the SBCA officials. It was argued in the petition that the SBCA did not implement the court’s order. The SBCA sealed the clinic at PECHS on October 3.

On November 22, the Supreme Court quashed the sealing order and ordered the clinic to be de-sealed, which the parties have not yet complied with.
