Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar has made a bold prediction about India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy.
In an interview, the former pacer said that there will be back channel talks between the two countries regarding the Champions Trophy.
“We should not lose hope, but we have to wait for a solution,” he said.
“We all know the fact that 95 to 96 per cent sponsorship comes from India to the International Cricket Council (ICC), so the Indian board also shows eyes.”
Shoaib Akhtar said that the arrival of Pakistan and India teams are really in the hands of the governments, no board can do anything, whether it is the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“Imagine Virat Kohli coming to Pakistan and scoring a century, Pakistan can’t host a big tournament like the World Cup, but if (Champions Trophy) happens, it’s a step for big events,” he said.
On the other hand, the BCCI and the PCB are engaged in a war of words with each other over the Champions Trophy.
Moreover, the broadcasting company has started increasing pressure on the ICC to announce the schedule as they are facing financial losses due to the delay.
On the other hand, top ICC officials are also worried about the lack of flexibility by Pakistan and India, if the Indian board continues to be stubborn, then the ICC may face huge financial losses from the event.
