In today’s busy world, more movement in your daily life can prolong your life.
Being more physically active can extend your life by at least five years, according to a new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
“I was surprised to find that the loss of life expectancy in the US due to low levels of physical activity is comparable to that caused by smoking and high blood pressure,” said Dr. Leinert Wehrman, senior author of the study and professor of public health.
A 2019 study previously reported that the risk of early death was lower in people with more physical activity. The study participants’ activity levels were measured with an accelerometer.
Verman said the 2019 study, along with others, had already shown that the link between physical activity and early death was nearly twice as strong in surveys.
