France has banned Palestinian flags in the football match against Israel.
The head of Paris police has announced a ban on Palestinian flags during the upcoming UEFA Nations League match between the French national team and Israel.
In an interview with French media, Laurent Núñez said that stadiums cannot have politically motivated messages, including Palestinian flags, and that only the French and Israeli flags will be present in the stadium.
The Paris police chief said more than 4,000 security personnel would be deployed, including 2,500 to secure the sides of the Stade de France to ensure security problems like those in Amsterdam did not arise.
Meanwhile, Dutch police detained more than 100 pro-Palestinian protesters who violated a ban on demonstrations after clashes with Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam this week.
Hundreds of protesters gathered in the capital’s Dam Square chanting slogans of “in favour of a free Palestine” and against “genocide” in reference to the Israeli war on Gaza.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is likely to watch the Thursday’s football match between France and Israel in the stadium.
The French president’s office said Macron’s gesture is aimed at sending “a message of fraternity and solidarity after the intolerable acts of antisemitism that followed the match in Amsterdam last week.
