Iran will judge new US administration on basis of its policies: foreign ministry

Iran has said that it would judge the new US government on the basis of its policies and approaches after Republican’s Donald Trump won the presidential election yesterday.

A Foreign Ministry spokesman said today that Donald Trump’s victory is an opportunity for the US to reassess its wrong policies adopted in the past.

Under Trump as president, the US had unilaterally withdrew in 2018 from a nuclear accord signed in 2015 with Iran, imposing a series of draconian sanctions on Tehran.

Esmaeili Baghaei said that we have very bitter experiences with the policies and approaches of different US governments in the past.

He added that the results of the elections are an opportunity to revise the wrong approaches of the past.

He reiterated Iran’s earlier position that the results of the US elections are of no consequence to Tehran.

Baghaei further said the election of the US president is the responsibility of Americans.

He said what is important for Iran is performance of the US government.

Yesterday, Iran’s government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani has said that Tehran does not see any difference between Trump and Kamala Harris.
