Heart diseases on the rise among Karachi youth: experts

The cases of heart attacks and other cardiac related diseases are on the rise among the young people in Karachi.

Health experts have termed an overconsumption of biryani, haleem, hawla puri and fast food as responsible for an alarming rise in heart diseases among the city’s youth.

Less physical activity and overconsumption of these foods that are high in cholesterol are responsible for heart attacks and stroke among the young people in Karachi, they added.

These views were expressed by experts at a seminar “Food – For Health or Sickness” held at the Karachi’s Expo Center on the final day of Health Asia Conference.

Speaking on the occasion, NICVD professor Tahir Sagheer said that the consumption of unhealthy food is on the rise in metropolis. Unfortunately, such a food is inexpensive and easily accessible to everyone, they added.

They further said that biryani, haleem, nehari, halwa puri and fast food are prepared on commercial basis in ghee rich in trans fat, which makes people prone to fatal diseases and early death.
