Section 144: Sec 144: Over 100 arrested for holding rally in Karachi

KARACHI: Karachi Police detained over 100 activists and leaders from the Sindh Rawadari March, civil society, and religious groups, who were protesting in violation of Section 144 in Clifton’s Teen Talwar area and near the Karachi Press Club.

Despite the enforcement of Section 144, the Sindh Rawadari March, along with civil society and religious organisations, had announced a protest rally from Teen Talwar to the Karachi Press Club.

On the other hand, police deployed security forces at important locations, including Teen Talwar, Fountain Chowk, and other areas. Also, female police officers were stationed to handle any potential disturbances. The Karachi Police Chief, Javed Alam Odhu, addressed the media and visited the area to review the security arrangements.

The protesters torched a police van near Metropole Hotel. The police opened tear gas at the protesters near the Sindh Governor House. In retaliation, the protesters pelted stones at riot police. As a result, two policemen injured near the Metropole Hotel.
