Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja takes oath as 23rd CJP

ISLAMABAD: Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja has taken oath as 23rd Chief Justice of Pakistan today (Monday).

President Mamnoon Hussain administered Jawwad’s oath in a solemn ceremony at the President House.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and other political leaders were also present.

was nominated for the post of the CJP and later his appointment was approved by Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain.

The newly-appointed CJP will remain on the post for only 23 days till his retirement period on September 9, 2015.

Justice Jawwad is amongst the six judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan who wrote differential note against restoration of military courts established under 21st Constitutional Amendment.

The newly-appointed CJP was renowned for his verdict in various high-profile cases including pronouncement against NRO, Pervez Musharraf’s November 3, 2007 moves and imposition of case under Article 6 over violation of the Constitution.
