KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rahman has said that the matter will move forward if PPP recognizes us and we accept their mandate.

Hafiz Naeemur Rahman, while holding a press conference at the Adara Noor-e-Haq regarding the reduction of Jamaat-e-Islami’s majority in the name of recount in the municipal elections, said that even after four days of the municipal elections, the matter is not over and is being rigged. ROs are deployed to achieve desired results, he said.

He said that the election was held after two and a half years. He added that polls were earlier postponed four times. Uncertainty was kept until the last moment so that people could not vote. Over 25 per cent people cast their votes. After so many efforts, the election that took place was also plagued with problems.

Hafiz Naeem said that Forms 11 and 12 were not provided, even after several orders of the Election Commission. The presiding officer was issuing Form 11 at the will of ROs.

He said that our first demand is that for the seats that are to be heard in the Election Commission, vote bags should be shifted there. These vote bags are still with the ROs. The job of the ROs is to give protection but they are involved in rigging. There is no one to ask them. Numerous mistakes were made in Forms XI and XII.

He said that the process of recounting should be stopped. The recount should be done in front of the Election Commission. The Jamaat-e-Islami’s mayor will be appointed. If PPP accepts our mandate and we accept their mandate, then the matter will move forward.
