CAIRO: Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb of Al-Azhar University, Egypt’s world-renowned university, has called for men to marry with one wife.
Talking to Arab media, Shaykh-ul-Jamia Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyib said that men should be content with one wife as often second marriage leads to oppression of wife and children.
Ahmed Al-Tayyib said that those who believe in polygamy are deeply misunderstood, we should read and understand the verses related to polygamy in real context very carefully because in the presence of one wife, men do not have the freedom of second marriage. Second marriage is allowed on conditional permission only on solid grounds.
Sheikh Al-Jamia also said that remarriage is a Shariah right, I am not declaring it haraam and I do not want to ban it but I am strongly against the misuse of this Shariah right.
Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayyib further said that we have to stop the misuse of the Shariah right of more than one marriage.
