ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to end loadshedding in the country from May 1.

An emergency meeting on unannounced and unannounced loadshedding was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.

It was informed in the briefing that the previous government did not buy fuel for power plants in four years but the present government managed the fuel in two weeks.

It was further stated in the briefing that the total power generation in the country is about 18500 MW and the shortfall in terms of demand is 500 to 2000 MW.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, after briefing the officials of Power Division, directed to end load shedding from May 1 across the country.

It is to be noted that shortfall has increased due to supply and demand of electricity in the country due to which 8 to 11 hours load shedding is going on in urban areas while the worst load shedding is being carried out in Karachi by K Electric.

Earlier, Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif had expressed anger over the increase in loadshedding in the country and ordered a significant reduction in loadshedding by May.

According to a local TV, PML-N President and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued strict instructions to take steps on emergency basis to reduce loadshedding.

He has clearly said that efforts should be made to save the citizens from the inconvenience caused by the negligence of the previous government and the interim measures should be improved till oil and gas is arranged.

Shehbaz said that till the people get rid of this torment, he will not sit idle.

He said that Nawaz Sharif had provided ample amount of surplus power in the country but Imran government had not added a new unit.
