Nepra hikes power tariff by Rs3.09 per unit

KARACHI: K-Electric filed a petition to increase the price of electricity.

K-Electric has requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the price of electricity by Rs5.27 per unit.

According to NEPRA, K-Electric has filed the petition for the March monthly fuel adjustment, which will be heard on April 27.

K-Electric’s application states that Karachi’s power consumers will be burdened with more than Rs8.59 billion.

Earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested to increase the tariff of electricity by Rs3.15 per unit.

According to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the petition has been filed in the March Fuel Price Adjustment case, which will be heard on April 27.

The request to increase the tariff of electricity is for all electricity distribution companies except Electric.

In addition, a hearing was held at NEPRA headquarters on the ongoing loadshedding in the country, which was attended by officials of electricity distribution companies, K Electric, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and NPCC.

According to the statement, the authority expressed serious concerns over the ongoing loadshedding in the country and directed the distribution companies to take into account the severity of the weather while planning the power demand.

The authority directed that consumers should be informed via SMS before loadshedding.

Last month, the National Electric and Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has hiked Rs3.09 per unit electricity tariff.

According to the notification, the Nepra has increased power tariff in the head of fuel adjustment for the month of December.

It added that the power distributors companies will receive the hiked price in February bills. However, the increase in electricity price will not be applicable to K-Electric consumers.
