The walk was organized at Karachi Press Club. The event was attended by a large number of doctors, teachers, lawyers, female journalists, students and working women from across the city.
Addressing the participants of the walk, Hafiz Naeem-Ur-Rehman said that in the present capitalist system, the rights of both men and women are being exploited in the country.
He said that protection of women’s rights and providing them equal opportunities for development is not one of the priorities of the present government. Women can contest elections on general seats but the party heads earmark 33 per cent quota to get their blue-eyed women elected. This system exploits a common woman.
He said that the government was not ready to provide the basic facilities to the working women including transport. It is the responsibility of the government to take immediate steps to provide basic facilities including medical facilities to women in the private sector.
There is death penalty in the law of Pakistan but the ruling parties want to abolish the death penalty. In recent days it was tried to make new laws on the death penalty.
Hafiz Naeem said that those who abuse women should be hanged on squares.
He said that the PML-N, PPP and PTI had ruled in the Centre but they did nothing for the release of Dr Aafia. We demand on the occasion of International Women’s Day that Dr Aafia Siddiqui be released and brought to Pakistan.
