ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has issued the Islamabad Local Government Ordinance 2021 on Thursday.
According to the ordinance, electronic voting machines (EVM) would be used in coming local elections in Islamabad. There will also be an i-voting in Islamabad’s municipal elections while mayor Islamabad will be elected directly.
The ordinance is issued under Article 89 of the Constitution. The ordinance states that mayor Islamabad will be elected for 4 years. The mayor’s cabinet will be 12 members and the total number of members of the municipal corporation Islamabad will be 70.
According to the ordinance, development works, education, basic health and public transport have been handed over to MCI.
