‘Sighting of moon was even impossible with telescope on May 12’

Karachi: Director Space Science and Technology, Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal said that according to astronomy, it was not possible to see the moon on May 12, adding it was impossible to see the moon even with a telescope.

On the other hand, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, Special Representative of the Prime Minister for Religious Harmony, while releasing a picture of the new moon on Thursday evening, said that the decision of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was correct.

It may be recalled that the sighting of Shawwal moon was announced by the Central Ruete Hilal Committee on May 12 at 11:30 pm, after which a series of non-stop discussion on this issue has started.

In a statement, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, former chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, appealed to the nation to observe the missed fast and one day of aitkaf.
