Senate elections: ECP releases details of candidates

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has released the details of the candidates for the Senate elections 2021.

170 candidates filed nomination papers for 48 Senate seats. Preliminary list of candidates is likely to be released today while scrutiny of data will start from tomorrow.

According to the Election Commission, 29 candidates appeared for 11 seats in Punjab. 39 candidates filed nomination papers for 11 seats in Sindh, 51 for 12 seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 41 for 12 seats in Balochistan. 10 candidates filed nomination papers for two seats in Islamabad.

From Punjab, 21 nomination papers were filed for general seats, three for technocrats and clerics and five for women’s seats. In Sindh, 19 papers were filed for general seats, 11 for technocrats and 9 for women’s seats.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 22 candidates are contesting for general seats, 11 for technocrats and clerics, 13 for women and 5 for minority seats.

In Balochistan, 19 papers were filed for general seats, 8 for technocrats, 9 for women and 5 for minority seats. From Islamabad, 6 candidates filed nomination papers for the general seat and 4 for the women’s seat.
