NAYPYITAW, Myanmar: The military has taken control of Myanmar while senior politician Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained, the state television reported on Monday.

The Army have taken control of the City Hall in the Yangon city while the military trucks were also seen there.

According to a video message aired on the state-owned television the power had been shifted to the commander in-chief of the military while an emergency had been declared in the country for one year.

The cause of the coup is the government’s failure to take action on the voter fraud claimed by the military and postponement of general elections due to the Covid-19, the message added.
