Peshawar: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F opposed the government’s decision to hold the Senate elections before March.

JUI leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that the Senate is a constitutional body and its elections cannot be held ahead of schedule so the conspiracy of early Senate elections will not be allowed to succeed.

He said that according to the constitution, half of the members of the Senate would retire in March and new members would be elected in March, after which the Senate elections would be held.

He said that the confusion of the government could be gauged from illegal measures.
