Gigil-Baltistan goes to poll today amid snowfall, virus spread

Gilgit: The process of voting is continue in the Gilgit-Baltistan region for its legislative assembly on Sunday amid snowfall and rising cases of coronavirus.

The voting for 23 out of the total 24 seats started at 8am and will continue till 5pm.

Over 700,000 voters will exercise their right of franchise in the election.

A total of 1,260 polling stations have been set up across the region for polling. Of them, 297 polling stations have been declared sensitive.

In 10 districts, over 300 candidates are contesting on 23 seats in the Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, according to the public opinion surveys, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is enjoying a lead over other political parties in the elections.

According to the two public opinion surveys conducted by the Gallup Pakistan and Pulse Consultants, the PTI is enjoying a lead over other political parties in the coming elections to be held on Nov 15 in the area.

During the survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, the voters were asked about their favourite political party. Twenty-seven per cent voters replied as PTI their favourite party, 24 per cent PPP while 14 per cent PML-N.

Six per cent people said that they would not vote to any party in the coming elections.

On the other hand, the PTI is the first choice of the 35 per cent voters, the PPP is second of 26 per cent people while the PML-N is a popular party of 14 per cent voters, the Pulse Consultant’s survey said.
