ISLAMABAD: Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistan neuro-scientist in the US custody, has signed the mercy appeal, says a PM adviser here on Thursday.

Babar Awan, the adviser to PM on parliamentary affairs while responding to a query in meeting here on Thursday said that Dr Aafia Siddiqui had signed a mercy appeal in the US.

Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, during the meeting chaired by  Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla, had raised an issue that Dr Aafia was not being allowed to speak to her family over phone in Pakistan.

Awan added that now the jail authorities would forward the Dr Aafia’s mercy appeal to the US president.

He told the meeting that the Pakistani scientist had an access to email, through which she had been in touch with her family and the Pakistan counsel.

“I can task the Houston consulate to get her in touch with her family in Pakistan,’ the adviser offered.
