Number of PIA passengers drop after Karachi plane crash: minister

Islamabad: The number of passengers flying by Pakistan International Airlines have reduced after the Karachi plane crash.

Federal Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Wednesday admitted that the PIA plane crash in Karachi has badly damaged the reputation of the national airline.

He stated this in a written reply during the National Assembly session.

Sarwar Awan said that the number of passengers travelling by the PIA has decreased after the May 22 plane crash that occured near the Karachi airport.

The minister said that Rs1 million each had already been paid to the heirs of the victims and the two passengers who had survived in the crash. After legal proceedings, Rs10 million each will be given to the heirs of the passengers.
