Islamabad: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday filed an application in the Islamabad High Court seeking exemption from appearing tomorrow in the Avenfield and Azizia Steel Mills references.

The former prime minister has taken a stand in his petition that if he is undergoing treatment abroad due to illness, he cannot attend due to illness, therefore an exemption should be given.

Nawaz Sharif, in his plea, said that treatment in London was delayed due to coronavirus epidemic. Doctors have not yet given permission to travel to Pakistan. If doctors give permission after recovery, I will come to Pakistan on the first flight.

The former prime minister added that the Punjab government was provided medical report and other documents for extension of bail, but the Punjab government rejected the request for extension of bail for malicious purposes.

Nawaz Sharif took a stand in the petition that the lawyer had advised that there would be no point in challenging the verdict without appearing in court. He could not challenge the Punjab government’s decision to extend bail as he did not return to Pakistan.
