KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Monday demanded immediate withdrawal of increase in the electricity tariff.

He urged for constituting a committee comprising the steering committee.

The JI leader was addressing a sit-in against unannounced loadshedding and phase-wise hike in the power tariff by the K-Electric at the Orangi Town’s Qadafi Chowk.

Hafiz Naeem said that the rulers were showing hurry in shutting down the Steel Mills but in the case of K-Electric they were giving concessions.

Jamaat-e-Islami has launched a movement against the K-Electric, he said, adding that it’s scope would be widened to the streets.

He said that the members of the cabinet were talking about phase-wise increase in the power tariff. They must feel ashamed for talking about hike tariff in this situation, he added.

We have set up K-Electric Complaint Cells at all the offices across the city. The Jamaat-e-Islami will represent the masses at all forums. A group of thieves is imposed on Karachi.

The JI leader demanded that if the KE did not make further investment then it should be nationalised and its forensic audit of 15 years should be carried out .
