KARACHI: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday withdrew the stay order on sugar inquiry report and allowed the government to take action against elements involved in the scandal.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah dismissed the plea challenging the sugar inquiry commission by the sugar mills owners.
The court in a brief verdict allowed the government to take action against the sugar mafia.
The court observed that the government’s decision to delegate the authority to the Shehzad Akbar in the sugar case was wrong. The federal government cannot give its powers to anyone.
The IHC chief justice remarked that the government may send the case to the National Accountability Court NAB after the judgement. However, the formation of the sugar inquiry commission is correct, he added.
Earlier on June 11, the Pakistan Sugar Mill Owners and other 17 mill owners including PTI’s Jehangir Tareen had challenged the report of the sugar inquiry commission.
