One dead, 6 hurt as multi-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Lyari area

KARACHI: A five-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood, killing one and injuring six others here on Sunday night.

Police and rescue sources said that the multistorey building, which had already been declared as dangerious, caved in in Lyari’s Khada Market. As a result, one person was killed and six others injured while trying to evacuate the building.

They said that several residents are still feared to be trapped under the rubble.

Pak Army and Rangers have also joined the rescue operation to pull out those trapped under the rubble.

The building housed 40 apartments and a penthouse, police said.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed the Karachi commissioner to start the relief work immediately.
