Islamabad: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza on Friday said that Pakistan would start production of Remdesivir, an effective medicine in treatment of coronavirus, in a next few weeks.

Addressing a presser, Dr Zafar said that we would try keep the price of the drug low.

Earlier, the Food and Drug Administration FDA of the US had allowed to use Remdesivir for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The manufacturing company of the drug had signed a contract with Pakistan two days ago.

Dr Zafar said that there is no vaccine for coronavirus as yet, however, the drug company has said that the use of Remdesivir gives 30 per cent relief in the severity of illness.

Pakistan is among the five countries of the world whom the license have been issued to manufacture the drug, he said.

The PM’s special assistant said that the drug would be registered in five weeks while its production would start in eight weeks after which Pakistan could export the medicine to 127 countries.
