PIMA warns mosques turning into big source of virus transmission

Islamabad: The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) on Saturday warned that mosques are turning into a big source of coronavirus transmission, urging faithful to offer prayers at home.

The warning has came at the time when the virus infections have reached over 12,000 in the country.

PIMA President Dr Iftikhar Burney addressing a press conference said that the infections had surged over the past week.

He said that the cases had doubled from last week’s 6,000 to 12,000 in just six days.

Earlier on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Quershi had said that coronavirus cases are likely to reach its peak in May and June in Pakistan.

He added that the virus cases had so far not reached to the highest level.

The foreign minister said that the infections would further increase to peak in May and June.
