NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday ruled that there would be no stay on the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

However, the apex court decided to form a five-member bench to hear all the petitions registered across the country against the CAA.

The court also allowed four-week time to the BJP-led government to respond to a total of 144 pleas that challenged the CAA.

Last month, India had passed the controversial  Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 that allowed citizenship to all religious minorities except Muslims fleeing persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
