ISLAMABAD: Islamabad will not become a party to the ongoing conflict in the region, says foreign minister here on Monday.

Briefing the Senate on the current US-Iran tensions, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that first an American contractor was killed in an attack on Iraqi military base in Kirkuk. Later, the US had carried out strikes on Iraqi militia backed by Iran.

Last week, the Senate chairman had asked the foreign minister to brief the Senate on the foreign policy.

On Sunday, speaking to ARY News, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor had said that Pakistan would not allow anyone to use its soil against others.

He added that Islamabad would only support the peace process.
