Article 370 gives special powers to occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the article, the state constituent assembly makes its own constitution, giving it an autonomous state power.

Article 35A permits local legislature in occupied Kashmir to define permanent residents of the region.

The article forbids Indians from outside the state from permanently settling, purchasing land, holding local government and foreign companies’ jobs or winning education scholarships in the region.

It also bars female residents from property rights in the event that they marry a person from outside the state. The provision also extends to such women’s children.
