Pakistan to support referendum for Kashmiris: Abdul Basit

NEW DELHI: Pakistani High Commissioner to New Delhi, Abdul Basit, has clarified stance that Pakistan would continue supporting right of referendum to Kashmiris.

Abdul Basit made the statement while attending Eid Milan Party being organised at Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi here on Tuesday.

Central leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is also attending the prestigious ceremony with agenda to express his deep reservations over neglecting discussion over Kashmir dispute during last meeting of Pakistani and Indian Prime Ministers in Ufa, Russia.

It should be mentioned that APHC chairman Syed Ali Geelani had rejected the invitation by Pakistani High Commission to attend the Eid Milan Party.

Pakistani envoy Abdul Basit placed special thanks to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq over his arrival in the ceremony. On the event, Abdul Basit urged both countries to open paths of reconciliation after 67 years of conflict and confrontation to resolve all long standing issues.

He expressed his hopes for a fruitful meeting between leaders of Pakistan and India. He added that the country wanted to hold dialogues on all important issues. However, he clarified that Pakistan has not stepped back from his stance and it always support vote right of Kashmiris.
