In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has called for complete shutdown and a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Eidgah in Srinagar on May 21 to pay tributes to prominent martyred Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone as well as the victims of Hawal massacre on their martyrdom anniversaries.
Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st May 1990. Over 70 mourners were martyred in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops fired upon his funeral procession. On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was killed by unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering.
The JRL in a statement issued in Srinagar said that on May 21, a public gathering would be held at the Martyrs’ Graveyard in Eidgah where fateha will be offered for Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, victims of Hawal carnage and all other Kashmiri martyrs.
