The Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has emerged as the richest political party in the country after the top poll organising authority issued assets details of 81 political groups on Tuesday.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the ruling party tops with Rs376.6 million worth of assets and during the period of a year the assets of the PTI increased by Rs220 million.

The PTI received over Rs6.5 million from overseas Pakistanis among them those residing in Britain donated Rs40.92 million whereas expats in the United States contributed Rs12.6 million.

The governing party has declared details of six bank accounts and Premier Imran,who is also the party head, has submitted the affidavit with the ECP of not receiving funds from any prohibited source.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PTI is facing foreign funding case which was filed in November 2014 by the party’s former central vice president Akbar S Babar who had alleged corruption and other illegalities in the PTI’s funding.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) comes second with assets value at over Rs253 million. The Nawaz Sharif-led party’s assets witnessed increase of Rs20 million during the period of one year and it sold the election tickets to its candidates for Rs119.7 million.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stands at number three in terms of assets value. The total assets owned by the Bilawal Bhutto Zardari-led party are of Rs167 million. The PPP had generated Rs93.7 million from the proceeds of party tickets.

Meanwhile, the right-wing party, Jamaat-e-Islami, owns assets of Rs106.3 million.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-Pakistan) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan received donations of Rs17.5 million and Rs5 million respectively.

Interestingly, ‘firebrand’ politician Sheikh Rashid-led Awami Muslim League (AML) is the poorest party of the country with assets worth Rs138,000 only.
